That's the idea. I used to play a game called "Takyon" Though I forget how to spell it. it was pretty much mission based, and one player would have any number of personal combat fighter-sized ships. So I thought why not a game where there is a fully manned ship involved?
Though for the sake of game-play there would be more gunners, and fighter pilots than flight crew. All the fun...

And of course, designing and building ships from choice pieces is always an exercise for the creative minds. New parts could be installed once bought, the ships could be refitted to deal with different problems, and the richer captians could have more than one ship, depending on how many credits he or she has earned through missions.

You can include the following:

If the US Navy wants to make their version of America's Army I think the Navy jobs could be translated into scifi versions. Some Navy ratings would directly translate, Captain, Navigation, weapons, engineer, pilot, and flight crew. This should produce more then enough professions to keep a game going.

It would be a cool game that simulates a modern aircraft carrier with multiple users.

In addition to having bases serve for trading goods, bases could provide single player mini-games.
