An MMO where the living fight the dead. As the living you must reinforce your shelter with objects found amongst the landscape, collect amenities needed for life and stay alive. As the dead you gain your strength from meat. Small creatures will keep you limping along, but to get your run on or move large objects, you’ll have to take down bigger meat.

A strong physics engine is a must! All objects have weight and mass, which plays into the build function needed for the living to reinforce structures and create traps for the dead. and basically any elements that could be captured from the genre ie: caused by disease, nighttime benefits the movement of dead, military presence, urban vs. rural, weapons of choice for certain levels of dead…etc.

The genre and storyline of Upgrade, that’s irrelevant. Make them whatever you want. The idea here is the asthetics. The game will start as the most basic, old-school stuff you can think of- white stick figures on black background, Atari-style bleeps and bloops, that kind of thing. And if you just blaze through the game, that’s how it’ll stay.

However, the game contains a lot of sidequests, the completion of which gives the game its name. Every sidequest you complete allows you to upgrade one asthetic- the background, character model, sounds, music, replace text boxes with voice acting, etc. By the time you get to 100% completion, the game should be absolutely gorgeous. And then afterwards, you can go back and start the game again with all the unlocked upgrades.

Or not, because I’m tacking on sliders for these things to move around at your leisure. So if you WANT a Vib Ribbon stick figure shooting 8-bit enemies to the sounds of Halo 3, be my guest.
